[ISN] Defacement archives inaccessible

The well-known Web page defacement archive, alldas.de, appears to have
disappeared from the Net altogether. Attempts to access the site over
the past week have met with no success.

None of the better-known news sites on the Net have carried any report
on the apparent demise of one of the Web's most valuable archives.

Last September, there was a concerted distributed denial of service
attack against safemode.org which hosted a mirror of the defacement
archives. The attackers sent out a DDoS, spoofing safemode's IP and
the Web sites which took the brunt of the attack complained to the ISP
which was hosting safemode.

As a result, the site was dropped by its ISP. The attack came at about
the same time as one on alldas which resulted in that site becoming

In January this year, safemode stopped mirroring the defacement

Reporting on the incidents at the time, The Register, a UK-based IT
news site, speculated that there appeared to be a coordinated attempt
to force the defacement archives to be taken off the net - for
whatever reasons.

Reasoning that it seemed unlikely that script kiddies would want their
handiwork - images of defaced sites - to be taken off the Net, The
Register speculated that it made more sense to conclude that
government and big business would prefer that the archives went

Attrition.org, another site which hosted a mirror of defaced Web
pages, stopped doing so in May last year because it was finding it
difficult to keep up with the pace of defacement.
