Schwachstelle in den Network Security Services (NSS)
In der Bibliothek der Network Security Services (NSS), die vom Sun
Java System Web Server und dem Sun ONE Application Server verwendet
wird, ist eine nicht weiter beschriebene Schwachstelle vorhanden. Ein
entfernter Angreifer kann diese Schwachstelle fuer einen Denial of
Service Angriff auf den Server ausnutzen. Als Voraussetzung zum
Ausnutzen der Schwachstelle muss die Unterstuetzung des SSLv2
Protokolls aktiviert sein.
Betroffen sind die folgenden Software Pakete und Plattformen:
Sun Java System Web Server 6.0 ohne Service Pack 10
Sun ONE Application Server 7 ohne Update 3
Red Hat Linux
Sun Solaris
Windows NT, 2000
IBM AIX

1. Impact
A local or remote unprivileged user may be able to cause the Sun Java System
Web Server or the Sun ONE Application Server to exit unexpectedly due to a
security vulnerability in Network Security Services (NSS). The ability to
disable a Sun Java System Web Server or a Sun ONE Application Server is a
type of Denial of Service (DoS).

2. Contributing Factors
This issue can occur in the following releases for all platforms:
* Sun Java System Web Server 6.0 without Service Pack 10
* Sun ONE Application Server 7 without Update 3
Note: This issue only affects systems which have SSLv2 enabled. Follow the
steps listed in the Relief/Workaround section below to determine if SSLv2 is
enabled on the system.

There are no reliable symptoms that would indicate the described issue has
been exploited.

4. Relief/Workaround
To eliminate the possibility of the described issue from occurring, disable
SSLv2 and all associated SSLv2 ciphers as shown below:
For Webserver 6.0:
1. Log into the Administration Server
2. Select the desired server instance from the pull down menu
3. Select the "Preferences" tab and click on the "Edit Listen Sockets" link
4. For the Listen Socket that has SSL enabled, select "Attributes"
5. Under "Ciphers" select "SSL2"
6. Uncheck "SSL version 2" (One may also disable all of the "SSLV2 ciphers"
by unselcting them)
7. Click "OK" then "Quit"
8. Click "Apply" in the upper-right corner of the browser
9. Click "Apply Changes" and restart the server
10. Enter the SSL password when prompted
For Appserver 7.0:
1. Log into the Administration Server
2. Select the desired instance from the pull down menu
3. Expand the HTTP Server node
4. Select the "HTTP Listeners" node
5. Select the desired SSL instance to be edited
6. Uncheck the "SSL2 Enabled" checkbox to disable SSLv2
7. Click "Save"
8. Click on "Apply changes required"
9. Restart the server
