-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

HPSBNS02166 SSRT061255 rev.1 - HP NonStop Server running G06.29, Local
Unauthorized Access
NOTICE: The information in this Security Bulletin should be acted upon
as soon as possible.
Release Date: 2006-10-26
Last Updated: 2006-10-26
Potential Security Impact: Local unauthorized access
Source: Hewlett-Packard Company, HP Software Security Response Team
VULNERABILITY SUMMARY
A potential security vulnerability has been identified with HP NonStop
Server running G06.29. The T6533G06 version of Standard Security product
performs an incorrect evaluation of the access permissions on OSS
directories which may result in local unauthorized access.

SUPPORTED SOFTWARE VERSIONS*: ONLY impacted versions are listed.
HP NonStop Server running G06.29
BACKGROUND
In HP NonStop Server running G06.29, the permissions on directories are
evaluated incorrectly, if no optional access control list (ACL) entry is
assigned. This can pose a security vulnerability on OSS directories.
RESOLUTION
The resolution for this issue is provided in SPR (Software Product
Revision) T6533G06^ABK. This SPR is included in the G06.29.02 release,
which replaces the G06.29 release.
Alternatively, HP has provided the following workaround:
This workaround applies only to Version 3 filesets.
The following SCF command can be used to identify the version of the
fileset:
SCF DIAGNOSE FILESET $ZPMON.<fileset>, STATUS
Version 2 filesets first need to be backed up and then upgraded to
Version 3 filesets. Use this SCF command:
SCF DIAGNOSE FILESET $ZPMON.<fileset>, UPGRADE
To insure that directory permissions are made explicit, if a directory
does not yet have an ACL associated with it, assign one with appropriate
security. To make sure directories or files that are created subsequent
to implementing this workaround are not vulnerable to the same problem,
assign at least one default ACL entry to the existing directories.
This OSS command assigns a optional ACL entry with a benign default to
all directories in the specified directory tree (for example, use the
fileset mountpoint directory), such that all subsequently created
directories in that directory tree automatically also have the optional
ACL entry assigned to them:
find <directory> -type d -print | xargs -n1 setacl -m
d:u:SUPER.SUPER:r--
If all of the started filesets on the system are Version 3 filesets, use
this OSS command to assign the optional ACL entry to all directories:
find / -W NOG -W NOE -type d -print | xargs -n1 setacl -m
d:u:SUPER.SUPER:r--
