Malicious Software Report
  i - New version of NetSky
 ii - W32.Sober.D

Reports are being received of a new version of NetSky.  This variant uses a .PIF attachment type and is packed using tElock.  This is already being rated as a MEDIUM threat by Network Associates.  Uniras Brief 105/04 provides further information on the large number of NetSky variants.

There are also increasing reports of the latest version of Sober, W32.Sober.D, being rated as a MEDIUM threat by av vendors.  This is a mass mailing worm that harvests addresses from the infected system and then uses its own SMTP engine to propagate.  It takes the form of an email from Microsoft providing a patch to repair MyDoom infections.  This attachment will be either a .zip or .exe.  Please note that the email could be in either English or German.
